It served as the residence for important Mayan leaders. It stands on the north walled city built by the a steep cliff.
The part of the wall that ran the width of the site was slightly shorter and only about meters ft on both sides. Artifacts found in or near the site confirm contact with Central Mexico and Central America. This shrine marks a break in the barrier reef that is opposite the site. This was such a cool experience and I would recommend both seeing the ruins on land and in the sky!
